Contact mixenden Activity Centre
Mixenden enjoys a unique position located in the heart of Calderdale, situated on the edge of moorland wilderness, yet just two miles from Halifax town centre.
The Centre itself is host to a woodland reserve, a reservoir and is surrounded by the hills and vales of the Calder Valley.
There is a regular bus route from Halifax centre to our doorstep. Wherever possible we use our surrounding environment as an integral part of our programme.

Thomas (Tomo) Armstead
I’m Tomo and I love being active and outdoors! I have 5 years experience within the outdoor industry, and enjoy adding new experiences to my list as often as possible. Running sessions that both empower and challenge my group is important to me as in instructor, as is pushing individuals to get outside their comfort zone to realise their potential. I ride my bike, climb, ski, run and paddle as often as possible fortunately I have the opportunity to offer most of these as sessions at M.A.C. I work hard to develop my own skills and have multiple NGB awards that enable me to deliver numerous sessions. Keeping my personal skills current is important to me as I believe it equips me to guide my group from a position of knowledge.
Jason "Jude" Garland - Outdoor Instructor/ Youth Worker
I am an enthusiastic and driven former Royal Marines Commando, who is diligent and uses strong influencing skills to add value and make a difference. I am an individual who is happy to work independently or as a team player and take a pragmatic approach to working in partnership with individuals, teams and organisations at all levels to deliver tangible results.
I believe that to provide the best possible provision for Young People, those that deliver need to have high professional standards. I continually look towards enhancing myself with experience, technical and formal qualifications thus giving me skills and capacity to be a valued asset to Mixenden Activity Centre. I am currently a qualified Mountain Leader (summer), Climber (SPA), BCU Level 1 Coach, Archery Instructor, MIAS Mountain Bike Tutor L4/2 Technical Terrain, DofE Gold Assessor, First Aid Instructor, Lifeguard Trainer/Assessor and Swimming Teacher to Boot.
